From Film to Faith
A GLOBAL PRAYER MOVEMENT FOR “THE CHOSEN”

How many pastors can say they have a film degree and a background in the performing arts? It didn’t take me nine years of pastoring to realize I’m an “odd duck” (most people discover that quickly!), but my favorite blend of art and theology has certainly been PrayForTheChosen. This project, which the Lord started three years ago, was birthed from a simple, burning question: “Who’s praying for them?” What began with one person, right here in the same cozy office where I’m typing, has now blossomed into a global prayer movement of over 900 intercessors from 54 countries! Glory to Jesus!
Soon after the Lord entrusted us with the stewardship of the Grace House of Prayer (GHOP), we began collaborating with the Hollywood Prayer Network. Our mission is to intercede for “The Chosen” series, which films less than an hour from Grace Community Church. I’ve found creator Dallas Jenkins and his fellow writers to be gospel-focused and Jesus-honoring men, crafting what I believe to be the most powerful, Kingdom-bringing art in human history.
In June 2022, we launched on social media, posting three times a week with photos of cast or crew members, inviting people to speak prayer and blessings over them. The following month, we started a weekly Zoom prayer meeting with a half-dozen people. That meeting has now grown to include around 30 friends from multiple continents, who gather online every Saturday for an hour of prayer. What began with rudimentary Photoshop skills and single-handed administration has, by God’s grace, expanded to include 20 volunteers from 10 countries. These dedicated individuals lead six international prayer teams (Western Hemisphere based in Texas, Spanish, Portuguese, French, India, and Eastern Hemisphere based in Australia) and manage prayerful social media accounts for all those languages and regions.
