Angel Tree Party 2014
Prison Fellowship has a program called Angel Tree, an organization that allows incarcerated parents to sign up their child(ren) to receive a present from them through a church, since they will be separated at Christmas time. For the first time, this year we hosted an Angel Tree party. We received a list of over 60 children to sponsor with gifts, and we invited them to come and celebrate Christmas together at Grace.
Half of the children that were signed up to receive a gift were “adopted” by generous families at Grace who shopped and wrapped presents to give them at the party. Others spent time the week of the party baking many homemade holiday cookies and snacks for the children to enjoy. The Grace Youth Ministry sponsored the other half of the children on our list, and the night before the party over 140 teenagers went shopping for gifts. They even helped the children who came to the party make a personalized Christmas ornament to hang on their tree at home.
For the children that could not make it to the party, we had teams of volunteers do home deliveries of all the gifts, along with an invitation to our Christmas Eve Service. I heard from our regional Angel Tree director that every single Angel Tree child in Tarrant County was adopted this year, and that did not happen last year.
I am so glad that we were able to remind all of these children that Jesus loves and cares about them in a practical way! We hope that we can continue to be an encouragement to these families throughout 2015!
