“Miss Margaret,” as she is called by most people at Grace, especially the children, started attending Grace in 1988 and shortly after that, at the request of Pastor Gary, became the volunteer leader of the women’s ministry. During this time she also served in the children’s ministry. She has been involved in children and youth ministries for more than 35 years. Miss Margaret came on full-time staff in August of 1994 as the Pastor of Women and Children and served in that capacity until January 2018 when her whole focus became the parents and children of AdventureLand.
The person in the Bible she relates to the most is the woman mentioned in Luke 7:37-38 who poured the costly perfume on Jesus and wiped His feet with her tears. Just like this woman, Miss Margaret was a sinner in need of a Savior. She is so thankful for that wonderful day she met Jesus. He has become her life, her reason for living.
Her years devoted to women’s ministry spurs her on in leading AdventureLand, the children’s ministry of Grace Community Church. Through her experiences of counseling women with painful lives, she has seen that a lot of people make bad choices because they haven’t been taught the truth of God’s Word. She has a passion to reach children at a young age, leading them into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Her prayer is that the time children spend in AdventureLand each week will be one of the highlights of their week, filled with Jesus, fun, and friends.
Miss Margaret has traveled several times to Turkey, Bulgaria, and Mexico on mission trips. She has also been involved in the leadership of city-wide outreaches to children, taught city-wide seminars on teaching children to pray, and has written articles for children's ministry magazines and VBS (Vacation Bible School) curriculum used at Grace Community Church. She has also developed a clown character named “Sonshine” who spreads the love of Jesus, the Son of God, everywhere she goes.
Miss Margaret was born in Waco, Texas. Prior to being on staff at Grace, she worked in the computer industry in human resources management. She is the mother of two sons, Scott (with daughter-in-law Janie and grandsons Tristan and Tracen) and Darrin. She loves being a mom and is so very proud of both of her sons. One of her favorite verses is found in 3 John 4, “I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.” In her spare time, Miss Margaret loves to travel, read, write and work in her yard.
