1. WHAT IS LAUNCH ALL ABOUT?
The purpose of LAUNCH is to equip people in key areas of character, biblical knowledge, and ministry skills to make disciples and form churches among unreached peoples.
2. WHO IS LAUNCH FOR?
LAUNCH is for anyone who has completed MULTIPLY, and wants to use their gifts, talents and passions to see people from another culture come to faith in Christ and get established in reproducing communities of Jesus-followers (local churches).
3. WHY THE FOCUS ON DISCIPLE-MAKING AND PLANTING CHURCHES?
Jesus gave us the mandate to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19). We see in the book of Acts that the early followers of Jesus led others to faith in Him. We also see that the new believers were not left in isolation, but that they were formed into groups that worshiped, prayed, ate, learned, served, fellowshipped, and reached out together (Acts 2:42). Those groups became local churches, which continued the mission of Jesus by making disciples and starting new churches.
4. IF I HAVE INTEREST/EXPERIENCE IN BUSINESS, EDUCATION, HEALTH CARE, OR A TECHNICAL FIELD CAN THAT BE USED IN DISCIPLE MAKING?
Yes! Skilled professionals often can use their expertise in a cross-cultural setting as part of an overall strategy to make disciples.
5. WHAT IF I WANT TO BE INVOLVED IN HUMANITARIAN EFFORTS, JUSTICE ISSUES, OR RELIEF WORK?
Followers of Jesus will often express their love of others and of God by being involved in these types of activities. Indeed, Christians are encouraged to “look after orphans and widows in their distress” (James 1:27). Good works can be a means by which people are opened up to receive and accept the good news of Jesus Christ. LAUNCH can help people interested in humanitarian work use that in a holistic effort to make disciples.
6. WHY THE FOCUS ON “UNREACHED” PEOPLES?
As of this writing, according to Joshua Project there are about 7,000 unreached people groups in the countries of the world. “Unreached” means that there is no indigenous community of believers with enough people or resources to bring the gospel to that people group. Practically speaking, two percent or less of the people in that people group are true followers of Jesus. That means that about 3 billion people have virtually no one in their people group to tell them the good news of Jesus. Someone from outside their group must go to them and tell them.
7. WHAT DOES LAUNCH COST?
There is no tuition for LAUNCH.
8. WHO ARE THE INSTRUCTORS AND MENTORS?
Local workers and practitioners who have served or are currently serving in some missions capacity.
9. HOW MANY HOURS PER WEEK WILL LAUNCH TAKE?
Class meets one night per week for 2.5 hours. One former student gave this answer on the time commitment outside of class: "0-10 hours. The first week, we are strongly encouraged to have an hour long quiet time each day. We are encouraged to take advantage of discipleship opportunities. Reading and homework was very minimal. Maybe 30 minutes a week on average. So making disciples and spending time with Jesus is what was most emphasized. So it's kind of hard to equate that to homework because if we are following Jesus and being obedient we will do that. It just encourages us to do it."
10. WHERE WILL I SPEND MY SUMMER INTERNSHIP?
The location of the internship will be decided upon during late Fall semester/early Spring semester as LAUNCH leaders meet with students.
11. WHAT HAPPENS AFTER LAUNCH...WILL I BE SENT OVERSEAS?
LAUNCH leaders will seek the Lord with and work with students personally to help them find the best place to use their ministry gifts, and take the next step in serving in God’s global Kingdom. Our goal is for LAUNCH to be an important step in the process of sending more workers into the harvest field (Luke 10:2).
12. WHAT IS MY NEXT STEP IF I THINK LAUNCH IS FOR ME?
