DAY 20 - DECEMBER 15TH, 2018

Like a Pebble in a Pond

Nathan Bergman

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
— Luke 2:10-11

This message was given by a heavenly messenger of God and is the fulfillment of a promise made and remade throughout the Bible. The effects of this promise have rippled out from this moment through all of time.

These ripples flowed back throughout human history to the prophets, who felt the waves of compassion God had for mankind when He sent His only Son. They spoke of the great things Jesus would accomplish. This ever-growing wave of love broke over every human soul from then until now, reaching out to us in the salvation of God, poured out in the blood of Jesus Christ for us all. This wave will continue until the very end of this world, when it will finally crash down upon everything and everyone, drenching them in either God’s punishment or His redeeming grace.

Such great power might seem a little scary, just as the appearance of the angel caused fear to fall upon the shepherds. God Himself is one to be feared, and this tsunami of His power and love is intimidating. We should not let fear of the angel prevent us from listening to His good news! We just need to fall on our knees, lift our arms to the heavens, and brace for impact. If we truly surrender to His love, it will sweep us away.

Question to Consider:

What fear is holding you back from embracing God’s love more completely today?
