Questions of Faith
Faith, church, Jesus, the Bible, and Christianity itself mean different things to different people. At Grace Community Church, these things meaning somethign specific and important. If you are asking some of these questions, below is a brief and informal treatment of each. Please explore our site, join us on a Sunday, or come to one of our membership classes to learn more about our beliefs and how we seek to live them out at Grace Communtiy Church.
"What does the church have to do with me?"
Many of us at Grace have asked this question at one time or another along our spiritual journey. Even though Grace Community Church is right in the middle of the Bible belt, church is not something we have all necessarily grown up with. Many people have an image of church as religious attendance to a meeting with rituals that have spiritual or inspirational meaning for those who have a certain set of beliefs. If you read the Bible, in particular the
Book of Acts which is the story of how the first churches started, you will see that the church is meant to be a loving community of people who have had an authentic and personal experience with Jesus Christ and have responded to Him in faith, resulting in freedom from sin and it's destructive effects. Unfortunately the church has not been a consistent example of that through history. We are striving to be the closest we can be to that ideal. It is our belief that the local church is the hope of the world as it is the only place with a message of unconditional love..
"Why is the Bible so important?"
The Bible is a historical account of the way God has revealed Himself and His plan to redeem us from the effects of sin on our race. Its accuracy has been validated many times over throughout history by multiple disciplines. While this is important for anyone considering its relevance to life, as important is the power that God's truth has to transform our lives if we embrace it by faith and choose to live by it. We are a community of people who have been forever changed by an encounter with the God of the Bible and His Son Jesus Christ. That is why we study, teach, and live by what it says. If you are new to the Bible or have not read it yourself, start with the
Gospel of John to get to know the story of Jesus Christ and consider what it means for you. For a summary of the message Jesus came to proclaim and the personal response He asked each of us to make, read about the
Good News.
